Love Different: The Story Behind the Project Love Different

Updated: Aug 14

Love Different started with a simple but powerful idea: what if an artist took full creative control from the very beginning to the very end? That idea became a mission for Paul Robert. He wanted to be hands-on with everything—building the beats in the studio, writing each song from scratch, recording the early takes, shaping the sound and message, and staying involved through final mixing and mastering.

The turning point came after a frustrating experience trying to get his earlier music properly distributed. With no clear answers from the label or digital platforms, Paul asked himself, “What am I doing wrong?” When no one could give him a straight answer, he made a decision. “I’m serious about this. I’m either going to go big or go home.” That moment of clarity led to the vision for Love Different—a 38-song project that began with a dream, a blank notebook, and a new partnership with producer and collaborator Kyle McCammon.

A Message About Love

In the early stages, the heart of the project focused on learning to love more deeply—starting with self-love and extending to love for others. Most of the original writing happened in quiet hotel rooms where Paul could reflect and create.

He explored the kind of romantic love that shows up in so many songs, especially the kind that people often long for when they’re single. In his track All Yours, he sings:

“Soon as you love you even more, there’s room to open door for that epic love, tailor made for you like whiteglove.”

That lyric became more than just a line—it became a reminder. The more we love and accept ourselves, the more we create space for the right people and opportunities to find us. The songwriting process helped Paul stay aligned with that belief, not just as an artist but as a person.

A Tribute That Changed Everything

In the middle of creating Love Different, Paul’s world shifted. His beloved sister Michelle passed away from breast cancer at the age of 34. Before she passed, Paul spoke with her in the hospital and asked if it would be okay to dedicate the project to her. She gave her blessing, and he promised to make her proud.

One of the most meaningful moments on the album comes in the song Confessional. After sharing a voice message from Michelle, Paul sings:

“I’ve been given more time, have to make the most of this time, right now.”

That line carries a deep purpose. Her passing became a spark that lit an even bigger fire in Paul’s heart—to help find a cure for cancer. It’s a cause that touches families everywhere, and it’s now woven into the mission of the company Paul is building. He believes that as long as we are here, we deserve a chance to heal.

Creative Nights and Powerful Sessions

The music for Love Different unfolded over many months, through life experiences and late-night studio sessions. Some of the most unforgettable vocals were recorded during quiet, focused nights with ambient lighting.

One special session happened on October 17, 2024, during a Supermoon. Paul focused only on vocals that night, and the emotion in the room was electric. Full moons often symbolize release and expression, and that energy was captured in the recordings.

The creative flow didn’t just happen at night. Paul and Kyle also worked during the day, experimenting with tempos, instruments, and song structures. Each session brought a different kind of energy, and together they created a body of work that felt alive.

Rituals, Tools, and Inspiration

Paul’s creative process was rooted in both routine and intuition. He journaled often, wrote in notebooks and on his phone, and stayed connected to his thoughts and emotions. Candles, incense, and meditation helped him center himself.

He often kept rose quartz nearby—a crystal known for supporting the heart. It became a quiet symbol for the whole project. While living in downtown Los Angeles, Paul would sneak away to the rooftop or walk to a nearby park to reconnect with nature.

Gear-wise, Paul recorded early vocals using a simple setup: a microphone, interface, monitoring headset, and GarageBand. Kyle’s studio, on the other hand, was packed with advanced equipment that brought the tracks to life.

Fast and Slow: From Freestyle to Final Mix

Some songs came together instantly. One example is IV, a song Paul wrote and recorded in a single take. It flowed naturally as a message to a future child.

Others took more time and tweaking. Smashed Up was one of the trickier tracks, especially the flow and harmony at the end. They even decided to speed up the tempo for a remix version. Broken Records also went through a few changes, including a complete vocal rerecord and the playful addition of broken instrument sounds—an idea sparked when Paul accidentally bumped into some studio gear.

The Surprise of Starting From Scratch

Two standout songs, Unknown and Tap In, began with absolutely nothing. No melody, no lyrics, no plan. Kyle started playing instruments and the songs unfolded naturally. They wrote and arranged everything in real time.

That spontaneity and freedom became one of the project’s defining elements. Paul had worked with others before, but never on something this personal or this big. He and Kyle often worked together for close to 40 hours a week. The collaboration, trust, and creative flow made the whole experience feel like magic.

Love Different is more than an album. It’s a love letter to growth, to family, to healing, and to creating from the heart. It’s a reminder that when we take the time to love ourselves more fully, we open doors to deeper connections, greater purpose, and music that truly resonates.

Finding Our 110 Percent

Finding our 110 percent isn’t about being perfect — it’s about discovering how much more we’re capable of when we commit fully to our growth, goals, and vision.

Everyone hits walls.  Everyone faces resistance.  But the 110 mindset is about pushing past the moments when it would be easier to quit.  It's about tapping into the part of us that knows we're made for more, even when it feels uncomfortable or uncertain.

110 percent looks different on everyone.  For some, it's waking up early to chase a dream.  For others, it's taking the first step after a setback.  It's about staying committed, digging deeper, and believing that what we’re working toward is worth every ounce of effort we have to give.

We'll never be perfect, but every moment that we embody it, we can unlock a life that's bigger, bolder, and more true to who we were meant to be.
